Faith healing, prayer, God and our modern mind; Where do we stand today?

Seldom God is sought for healing purposes. People today have become a miniature “King Solomon”, they have become very dependent on their own “wisdom” in medical science.

Even professing Christians, seem to reserve Christian healing, prayer, and God, for only the most extreme cases. Even then their prayer goes something like this; “God help the doctor’s hand”. Is OUR mind so big? Is the wisdom that doctors have so great, that God can only do healing through the doctor’s hand? We must condemn this tendency to exclude God from our health’s life and from our total life.

Faith healing, prayer, God and our modern mind; how is it applied in the Bible?

In the Bible we find 6 different types of healing.

#1. God doing the healing; (Gen.20;17, Ex.15;26, Ps103;3, 147;3, Mal.4;2). Of course in point #2 through #6 God is also involved, though not always specifically mentioned.

#2. Healing and health through balms, herbals, and the like; (Jer 51;8, Ps.105;14-16, Is.66;14, Pr.15:17, 27;25, Heb.6;7, S of S4:13-15, Mk15;23).

#3. Miraculous healing through special individuals; (Mt8;8-16, 12;15, Mk3;10-11, 5: 25-26, 6;5-13, Lk 6;19, 9;6, 14;4, 22;51, Acts3;11, 4;14, 4;22, 5;15-16, 8;7, 14;9-10, 28;8-9) This included Christ, his apostles, and at the very least, some of the early followers, who had a spiritual gift, (I Cor. 12;9, 12;28-30). Also, most of the time, there was faith involved on the part of the believer. There are two exceptions recorded, where there was no faith on the part of the believer. (Lk17; 17-19, John5:13)

#4. Healing through prayer (James5;16, Gen.20;19, IIChron.30:20, Ps.30;2 )

#5. Healing from sin (I Pet.2;24), healing through the word,(107;20), healing through repentance, and through a clean heart (Is.6;10) healing through the help of leaders Ez.34;4

#6. Healing by physicians; (Mrk 5; 25-26, Lk 8;43, IIChr16:12-13) I want to note here that healing by physicians, in our modern time, is so often the only thing we place trust in. You will notice that all 3 scriptures, mentioned above, have great warnings about that. I wish that we would dare to talk about our sole reliance on physicians, as scripture does. Or speak of how some people have suffered at the hands of physicians, as in these passages. Many Christians attempt to justify their total dependence on medicine, (and their lack of dependence on God), with bad arguments like; “most of the physicians in the Old Testament times were idol worshipers, who would use illegitimate methods to heal. And other arguments like: in those old times herbs, and the like, were not able to heal, only gave that impression. But if you go back to our point #2 you will see that, scripture, does not believe that this was the case.
