FAITH HEALINGAlso called Prayer Healing & Spiritual Healing Faith Healing DefinitionA treatment utilized since antiquity using 'spiritual' means in treating disease, like prayer and a profound belief in divine intervention in human affairs. Spiritual Healing involves, of course, the recognition and acceptance of a God beyond our own intelligence and with whom we can have a relationship. This God can provide an experience of inspiration, joy, security, peace of mind, guidance, and health that goes beyond what is possible in the absence of the conviction that such a power exists. The treatment can be on the body, mind and spirit or all. There are two main types of healing, the first is where it is the sick or in need person who does the spiritual believing and praying, there may or may not be things added like laying on of hands and anointing with oil, but in this case it is clearly God working directly in the sick person, not through someone. The second is where a healer does the pleading and enters a prayerful, altered state of consciousness in which he views himself and the patient as a single entity or where they do touch the he- alee and describe some "flow of energy" through their hands to the patient’s areas of pathology, here it is the healer who channels the healing. People in both groups of healing believe that, you don’t need a healer to take advantage of spiritual healing; both parties agree that the healing comes from one external, invisible intelligent source; both see the body mind and spirit as one interdependent unit and believe all three must work in harmony to maintain positive health. Faith Healing PurposeThere exist many published reports of experiments in which persons apparently were able to influence a variety of cellular and other biological systems through mental means. The target systems for these investigations have included bacteria, yeast, fungi, as well as cellular preparations (blood cells, neurons, cancer cells) and enzyme activities, eye movements, muscular movements, electrodermal activity, plethysmographic activity, respiration, and brain rhythms have been apparently affected through direct mental influence. In August 1998, Duke University reported that a study of 4000 North Carolinians ages 65 or over found those who participated in religious activities were 40 percent less likely to have high blood pressure which Increase risk of heart disease. Research has shown that religious people are less depressed, have healthier immune systems and deal better with addictions than the non-religious. Prayer has been used as a healing tool for centuries. And now, the scientists have proof that it really does work. The spiritual healing can help mental and emotional problems and physical conditions such as a frozen shoulder. Any problem, be it a broken leg or depression needs the power of healing to restore the balance of the whole person. It is felt that sickness often starts in the mind, or at the deeper level of the spirit, and it is often here that healing begins. Having said all of the above, we need to however keep the following in mind. I believe that we are not glorifying our Creator fully if we solely depend on His help through the hands of any type of Doctor or Therapist or faith Healer. We need to trust Him enough that He can help us learn how to take full responsibility of our own health. That of course is where we suddenly become a bit less faithful, that is where it becomes something where we have to actually work on ourselves, change ourselves, perhaps even change the way we eat, the way we live, the way we react to things, etc… . It is always easier to put the responsibility on someone else, that way we never have ourselves to blame for our unhealthy lifestyle. However, if we truly believe in the power of prayer, this too can be overcome.
