Massage services; Where can we find massage services places?

Private offices, Health Clubs, Studios, Clinics, Hospitals, Spas, Physical therapy places, Nursing homes, Gyms, Cruise Ships, etc. Some massage therapists travel to clients’ homes or offices to provide a massage. It is not uncommon for full-time massage therapist to divide their daily work hours among several massage services places.

Massage services: What should the therapist do at a massage services place?

          Prepare oneself . Get room in tiptop condition. Make sure that the neighborhood cannot observe the massage, close the curtains, or blinds. Create the right atmosphere, ambiance. It is important to have a cozy, comfortable, and clean, place. Use relaxing music (not your kind of relaxing music: ask the patient what she/he prefers), relaxing smells, colors, lighting, relaxing massage chair or table. Spread linen over table or for some types of massages over a mat on the floor (giving a massage on a bed or sofa is not recommended). Warm or cool the room. Cut nails, make sure hands are not rough, take a bath to relax yourself and smell good, concentrate on the upcoming massage and person, study what kind of illness or problem they have, relax with meditation, prayer, or yoga,  put on some comfortable clothes. Use a relaxing voice.

Ask person not to speak but to meditate.

Use heating/cooling to get the right temperature, in the form of a blanket or heating lamp (Note: that during undressing, and  during massage, most bodies are cooling down, except for rubbed area, keep covered, especially the elderly, and some of the ill.)

Use lamps or candles to have a nice glowing, warm ambiance that is not too bright and not too dark.

Bring aroma to the room, whether with flowers, or essences.

Warm the massage oil a little; do not use products with petroleum.

Place a blanket over the person.  

While you leave the room, have client undress, taking off his/her clothes, if they are comfortable with it, preferably in dressing room, and then they go lay down between the blanket and linen on his/her stomach, and then call you or ring you when they are ready. If the person takes all clothes off it will be easier to rub, without pulling and pushing of garments. If person doesn't want to then it would be fine to stay in underwear.

Any massage must begin at the top of the head. The lymph is first drained from the head and face to relieve tension and congestion. Then recommence at the neck/shoulder area, moving downward to the back and then lower areas. 

Always put the blanket back.

Massage slowly. Feel with your hands instead of looking with your eyes. It is good for a therapist to close eyes in between, to concentrate on the need of the client.

Massage services, What should we expect at a massage services place?

Expect you will have to answer a few questions; Your massage therapist will ask why you want a massage and what you want from your massage. Are you looking for help with migraine, a pulled muscle? Massage therapists will also want to know about your medical condition, so they can decide if massage is safe for you or how to make it safer. A good therapist will combine other natural therapies with massage.

Expect a request to disrobe. You'll be asked to remove your clothes, or at least most of them, usually in a dressing room or at least, your massage therapist should give you privacy while you take your clothes off, and provide a robe, blanket, or a towel to cover yourself. A good massage therapist will be very modest, and keep you covered in any area not worked on throughout the massage. If taking your clothes off doesn't sound relaxing tell your massage therapist, since relaxation is a major key.

Expect to be asked to lie down. Most massages will require you to lie on a padded table or on the floor on a pad. Pillows or bolsters might be used to position you during the massage. Some will perform massage in a chair.

Expect the massage therapist to use oils, creams, and lotions on your skin, mostly to reduce friction while massaging your body. Some use special oils or creams with herbals to further help the bodies’ defenses, or to add aroma. If you are allergic to any ingredients commonly found in body oils, lotions, or herbs, tell your massage therapist. He or she might have products without those ingredients. You may opt not to use oils and lotions, although that may reduce the quality of the massage.

    Expect not to feel significant pain. Pain that's more than a little discomfort could indicate that something is wrong. If a massage therapist is pushing too hard, tell him or her to lighten the pressure. Your massage therapist is expecting feedback from you, to determine how best to massage you, both in what does not feel good, and what does feel good. Occasionally you may have a sensitive spot in muscles that feels like a knots or sore area. It's likely to be uncomfortable while your massage therapist works it out. But if it becomes painful, again, speak up.

Expect to spend about an hour. Most table massages take about an hour, though some can be less, 30 minutes, and some up to 120 minutes long. It's your preference, and your money.

Massage services; What are massage services good for?

Alcohol; Massage during withdrawal from alcohol has shown benefits when combined with other natural treatments.

Allergies; massage bolster immunity and reduce the allergic symptom’s severity.

Anxiety; Massage reduces anxiety in depressed children and anorexic women, and in adults trying to quit from smoking, it reduces anxiety and withdrawal symptoms.

Asthma; Younger children who receive massage therapy show an immediate decrease in behavioral anxiety and cortisol levels after massage. Also, their attitude toward asthma changes, their peak air flow and other pulmonary function improves.

Back pain; It is known by many that back pain relieves with massage.

Binge eating; Massage, combined with other natural therapies, works for binge eating.

Cancer; People with cancer, who receive regularly scheduled massage therapy during cancer treatment, report less anxiety, pain and fatigue.

Depression; a few simple techniques can influence emotional state and mood.

Diabetes; Children who are massaged every day by their parents or therapist are more likely to stick to their natural therapies, which helped balance their blood glucose levels.

Fatigue; Especially Adrenal Fatigue sufferers, who realize that they are mostly tired in the morning and late afternoon, and whose energy rises after 5:00 p.m., and who by bedtime can’t sleep, are helped greatly with massage.

Heart disease; Some types of massage can reduce the heart rate, and some increase it. A specialist can help.

High blood pressure; One of the most effective ways to lower high blood pressure is massage therapy. A number of long term studies show, that a consistent massage program can decrease diastolic and systolic blood pressure, also a decrease in salivary and urinary cortisol stress-hormone levels is observed, and it lowers sources for depression, anxiety and hostility.

HIV; People with HIV who are massaged, combined with other natural therapies, show an increased number of natural killer cells, which are thought to defend the body from viral and cancer cells.

Infant growth; Massage encourages weight gain in premature babies and reduces the number of days they need to stay in the hospital.

Labor pain; Massage during labor lessens stress and anxiety, relaxing muscles and reducing pain.

Pain; Pain decreases in people with fibromyalgia, migraines and recent surgery.

Self-esteem; Giving special attention through massage can improve self-image in people with physical disabilities and terminal illnesses. Using touch to convey caring, can help children with severe physical disabilities.

Sleep problems; A research suggests babies may take comfort from a gentle massage, just like the benefits their stressed-out parents receive. Massage helps you relax and get in touch with your body, soul, and mind. A gentle massage before bedtime will ease tense muscles and leave you calm and ready for bed.

Sports’ related pain; A massage increases blood flow to muscles, helps preventing injury and helps an athlete perform better, and may reduce muscle soreness after they exercise.

Substance abuse; Massage therapy can help clients, who have cocaine addiction. It is thought that massage helps clients reduce worry and relax, which in turn reduces their stress, and the brain's release of the stress hormone, cortisol. Massage also improves breathing and allows the clients the experience of getting in touch with their feelings through touch.
