Shoulder Arthroscopic Surgery
The shoulder joint is one of the most versatile in the body, but it is also prone to injury, wear and tear. The ability to rotate the arm 180 degrees comes at a price because it is one of the easiest joints to dislocate or injure. When shoulder injuries or degenerative conditions cause pain or loss of function, orthopedic treatment or surgery may be required. The orthopedic specialists at DOCS Health offer shoulder arthroscopic surgery at our Los Angeles medical center.
Arthroscopic shoulder surgery is a minimally-invasive option to repair components inside the shoulder without open surgery. This procedure uses an arthroscope, which is a flexible tube that has a lens, light and camera to view the inside of the shoulder. Arthroscopes can be used as a diagnostic tool, but they can also relay images to a digital monitor to perform arthroscopic surgery. Small incisions are used to access the desired ligaments, cartilage, bone, tendons or tissue with specialized surgical tools. The procedure has fewer risks of infection or other complications than open surgery, with less scarring and a quicker recovery time.
Minimally-Invasive Surgery for Shoulder Conditions
Shoulder dislocations, fractures, torn tendons and degenerative conditions like arthritis can all require orthopedic treatment. When injections, medications, physical therapy and other conservative treatments are ineffective, shoulder arthroscopic surgery can be the next step to repair a painful or dysfunctional shoulder. Some shoulder conditions that may be repaired or treated with minimally-invasive surgery include:
- Rotator cuff tears
- Labrum tears
- Osteoarthritis or other types of arthritis
- Frozen shoulder
- Fractures
- Shoulder impingement
- Bone spurs
- Damaged ligaments or tendons
